A Little About His Big Bus

In Lusaka, buses are the main form of public transportation and it is very common to see blue buses filled with passengers all over the city. During the summer we use buses to bring all 10,000 kids to a central location for Camp LIFE.

Beginning in 2007, we started a program that allowed people to donate the money to purchase a bus.  These buses are a huge blessing for several reasons.

• We use the buses to bring to Camp Life more than 10,000 kids from all of Lusaka.  The more buses we have, the lower our transportation costs which means even more kids can come to camp.
• We can use the buses throughout the year to transport our staff throughout the city.  By having enough vehicles we can make sure our staff is able to move around Lusaka to where they are needed most and we can move supplies to our Community Resource Centers.  It also allows us to deliver food to kids and take them to doctor’s visits.
• When the buses are not in use, they are out around the city  on regular bus routes generating income.  The income that is generated from one Big Bus is enough to endow 12 sponsorships through the Father’s Heart Program or 3 sponsorship for children at the Tree of Life Children’s Village.
